The original thickness of the printed dielectric was 28 microns, achieved with two prints. This was at the very low end of the specifications for the ink (ESL 4913G), which suggest 25-40 microns for gold and 35-50 microns for silver. The metal being used in this case is silver. ALL the parts printed with the 28 micron dielectric had multiple shorts. A test has now been performed on two plates with three prints, resulting in a 38 micron dielectric layer, and zero shorts were found. The process will now be changed to yield a 42-44 micron dielectric thickness with 3 prints (to add some safety margin). 50 plates are being started with the modified process.
