From mgs@kfesg.lbl.gov Fri Sep 11 08:38:26 1998 Date: Thu, 10 Sep 1998 10:15:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Maurice Garcia-Sciveres To: spalding@fnal.gov, dbenjamin@fnal.gov, tka@fnal.gov Cc: ©connolly@kfesg.lbl.gov Subject: Hybrid production status Hi, I was a PMC yesterday and verified that the printing has begun. They are now at the first dielectric layer of the first batch of 50 plates. This batch is right on track to be completed by the end of the month. However, they do not want to start the remaining blanks (150) until this batch is finished and we are satisfied with the end product. I strongly support doing things this way and am very encouraged that they have chosen this path on their own initiative (because it does cost them more than running all the plates at once). In schedule terms, what this means is that after we OK this first batch (Oct. 15, since I'm away Sept. 28 - Oct.12) it will be 4 more weeks before the L0 + L3 order is complete. Just as a reminder, the qunatity ordered is 140 good plates, They start 200 blanks to make sure the order can be filled. If we get 40 good plates from this first batch that's enough to build 30 1/2 ladders of each L0 and L3 (taking into account lossess during hybrid assembly and testing). It's certainly possible according to the schedule to build 30 1/2 ladders in 4 weeks, but I don't think we should rush the PMC production in order to potentilly avoid running out of hybrids for a short while of order a week. -Maurice
