39 plates (out of 48) were fired with metal layer 2. Of these 18 have so far been probed and ALL OF THEM HAVE SHORTS between metal 1 and metal 2. The dielectric between the layers was printed only twice instead of three times as is more customary, which could explain having shorts, but we think that there may be an additional problem to cause so many shorts. The plan of action is as follows. The 9 plates on which metal 2 has not been yet added will get a third dielectric print before metal 2. If after this the problem goes away, another 39 plates will be started from scratch up to this point. and processing will continue with a 1-2 week delay. If the third dielectric does not solve the problem, further investigation will be necessary. One obvious thing would be to try a different dielectric. In the mean-time Carl and Amy will keep investigating, and PMC will also seek a solution on their end.
