SURF board info page

This page provides up-to-date information and documentation for the hardware and software which is to be used for the burn-in operation of ATLAS Pixel Detector Modules.

Hardware - SURF board

Revisions of the board:

Rev. 1.0:

Remaining Problems with rev 1.0:

Initial resting revealed that revision 1.0 the SURF board needs a few hardware kludges to operate properly.

These kludges have already been applied to the three commissioned boards. These kludges will be incorporated into the next revision.

Software – Ambush, Pontefix, Consumer

The software that controls the burn-in is “Ambush”. Ambush is the master application that schedules all operations (what voltages go on when, starting TurboDAQ scans etc.). Ambush also is also (temporarily) responsible for slow regulation of VDD and VDDA based on the actual voltages sensed on the Pixel Modules. (But the voltage regulation will be moved to the DSP on the SURF board in a future firmware upgrade.) “Pontefix” is the Windows driver that communicates with the SURF board over the USB port. Ambush communicates with other software (i.e. TurboDAQ and Pontefix) via “sockets”.

Available Software Versions:

Items that remain to be done for the burn-in-software:

·        SURF firmware upload application for Windows (currently Unix only)

·        Incorporate Consumer/Data viewer with user-interface

·        Voltage regulation in firmware
